How to Install RustDesk on Windows VPS

Linux Β· 2 min read

Guide to installing RustDesk on Windows VPS as a more secure replacement for RDP. RustDesk is free, supports MetaTrader auto-start, and protects your VPS from brute force attacks.

RustDesk is an open-source remote desktop application we recommend as a replacement for standard Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) on Digitalku Forex VPS. It offers better security and stability at no additional cost.

Why Use RustDesk

  • Enhanced security β€” connects via ID with hidden IP, preventing brute force attacks
  • Optimal MetaTrader auto-start β€” works correctly after VPS restarts
  • More stable connection
  • Completely free β€” no licensing fees

Installing RustDesk on Your VPS

Step 1: Access VPS via Remote Desktop

Log in to your VPS using Remote Desktop first to begin the installation process.

Step 2: Open VFX Welcome

Inside the VPS, open a browser and go to vfxwelcome.digitalku.com, then select the RustDesk installation option.

Step 3: Install RustDesk and Note Your ID

Run the RustDesk installer. Once complete, write down the RustDesk ID displayed β€” you'll need this ID every time you want to connect remotely.

Step 4: Run DisableRDP

After installing RustDesk, run DisableRDP to turn off standard Remote Desktop. This step is important to:

  • Protect your VPS from RDP-based attacks
  • Ensure RustDesk works optimally

Connecting to Your VPS via RustDesk

  1. Close Remote Desktop if still open
  2. Download RustDesk on your local computer from: github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk/releases
  3. Open RustDesk, enter your VPS ID in the "Control Remote Desktop" field
  4. Enter your VPS password

Troubleshooting

Unexpected dialog on first login: If a dialog appears after disabling RDP, leave the field empty and click the blue arrow button.

Display resolution issues: Adjust the screen resolution in RustDesk settings if font sizes appear too large or too small.
